Executive Summary
Teachizy works because a French regulation did the segmentation for it. The platform sells course creation software to French independent trainers and small training organizations (organismes de formation) [1, 2], a buyer who must produce audit evidence (connection logs, attendance certificates, completion certificates) to access France's public training funds under the Qualiopi certification regime, mandatory since January 1, 2022 [10, 11]. US incumbents (Kajabi, Teachable, Thinkific, Podia) price in USD, run English-only admin interfaces, and build none of this compliance tooling because the French trainer segment is too small to justify it at their scale [12, 13, 14, 15]. Teachizy stacked three mechanisms on that opening: a forever-free plan with a 9% sales commission that converts trainers at near-zero acquisition cost [1], EUR pricing at 49 euros TTC per month for unlimited usage (roughly a quarter of Kajabi's mid tier) [1, 12], and one-click Qualiopi evidence exports shipped within months of the mandate [5]. The result, per local TrustMRR Stripe-derived data: cumulative gross charge volume of about 2.50 million units across 27,759 charges from November 28, 2020 (four days after launch) through June 9, 2026, with annual charge volume growing 203% in 2022, 75% in 2023, 44% in 2024, and 25% in 2025 [25]. This is charge volume, not audited MRR. The company is bootstrapped: 5,000 euros of capital, confidential accounts, no funding announcements found [3, 4].
The operating pattern worth copying is regulation-as-segmentation: pick a buyer whose paperwork burden is created by local law, sell the paperwork as a feature, and let global incumbents' unit economics keep them out.
| Thesis component | Evidence | Confidence | Operator implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regulatory wedge: Qualiopi audit evidence is the feature US platforms will not build | Qualiopi evidence export shipped April 2022, three months after the mandate; attendance certificates live January 2021; dedicated Qualiopi solutions page [5, 10] | Verified (changelog, product pages) | Find a compliance artifact your ICP must produce and make it a one-click export |
| Freemium as zero-CAC distribution | Free plan (3 courses, 70 learners, 9% commission) live from launch; FAQ positions free tier as the demo [1, 20] | Verified (pricing page, 2020-2021 archive snapshots) | A commission-bearing free tier monetizes users who never upgrade |
| EUR price arbitrage vs USD incumbents | Pro 49 euros TTC/mo unlimited, 0% commission, vs Kajabi entry ~$69/mo for 1 product, Thinkific Start $74-99/mo [1, 12, 14] | Verified (live pricing pages) | Local-currency pricing 30-75% below dollar incumbents wins non-English buyers by default |
| COVID timing: founded by a trainer forced online | Archived December 2021 homepage carries founder statement that the health crisis forced digitalization of their own trainings [21] | Verified (web archive) | The best wedge products start as the founder's own compliance or workflow pain |
| Charge volume compounding with year-end seasonality | 2.50M cumulative, 27,759 charges, peaks every November-January; 2025 +24.7% YoY [25] | Local TrustMRR data (not audited MRR) | Growth is real but decelerating; the French ceiling is the open question |
