Overview

aggregated · trustmrr + sourced research
TL;DR: AEO Engine took a decaying 2018-era Amazon advertising agency, repositioned the same Stripe account and operating muscle onto answer engine optimization in mid-2025, and roughly 8x'd monthly gross charges in twelve months by selling guaranteed execution into a panic the SEO industry had only just named.(as of Jun 2026)

Executive Summary

AEO Engine is not a startup in the usual sense. It is a category pivot executed on top of a seven-year-old agency Stripe account, and that is precisely why it works. The mechanism: when AI answers started cannibalizing organic search clicks in 2024 and 2025, every SEO buyer suddenly faced a problem their existing vendor could not name a fix for. The operator behind AEO Engine took an Amazon advertising agency whose retainer book had been bleeding for three years, kept the delivery machinery (audits, content production, weekly reporting, retainer billing), and re-aimed it at the new panic: getting brands cited inside ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity. The product is workflow compression for a category that did not have a productized service yet. Monitoring tools told buyers they were invisible in AI answers; AEO Engine sold the only thing the buyer actually wanted, someone to fix it, at $1,597 to $2,997 per month with a 90-day traffic guarantee.

The local TrustMRR charge history makes the pivot legible in a way few teardowns get to see. The Stripe account's gross monthly charges peaked near $35k in mid-2020 as an Amazon agency, decayed to a trough of roughly $8.9k per month by late 2024, then inflected: $21.5k in May 2025, $41.6k in June, $65.1k in July, and a peak of $98.3k in March 2026. Trailing 30-day gross charge volume as of June 9, 2026 was $76,936 across 35 charges, an average charge of $2,198, which sits exactly between the two published plan prices [6][2]. The single most important fact in this teardown is that the revenue inflection began in May 2025, roughly eight months before the company says it formalized the AEO Engine brand in January 2026: the operator sold the pivot to existing-style buyers before building the brand around it.

Thesis componentEvidenceConfidenceOperator implication
Wedge: done-for-you AEO execution, not monitoringSite sells managed retainers; FAQ explicitly contrasts with "another monitoring dashboard"; competitors at $29 to $489/mo sell tracking onlyVerified (company site, competitor pricing pages)Sell the fix, not the diagnosis, when a category is new
Timing: AI answers broke the SEO contract in 2024-2025Semrush study of 200k AI Overviews: only 20 to 26% URL overlap with top-10 organic; Gartner predicted 25% search volume decline by 2026Third-party (Semrush study); Gartner cited but not directly fetchedNew buyer anxiety with no incumbent owner is the cheapest demand there is
Asset reuse: pivot on an existing agency machineSame Stripe account since July 2018; archived 2024 site shows an Amazon ads agency; logo filename retains the old agency slug; company says "roots trace back to 2018"Verified (TrustMRR raw data, Wayback archive, company site)A decaying services book is a launchpad, not a write-off
Conversion engine: guarantee plus scarcity plus free tools30% traffic growth in 90 days or work free; 5 clients/month cap; 9 free self-serve tools feeding a strategy callVerified (pricing page, as published)Risk reversal converts panic buyers faster than case studies
Distribution: AEO applied to selling AEOBlog publishes near-daily answer-shaped listicles ranking itself #1; "citation-ready answer" blocks on the homepageVerified (company blog, fetched June 2026)Your own category keyword space is free real estate if you move first
Scale: roughly $75k to $77k gross charges/monthTrustMRR raw daily Stripe history, trailing 30 days to June 9, 2026Local TrustMRR data (Stripe-verified gross charges, not audited recurring MRR)Agencies hit $1M run-rate on 30 to 40 clients; SaaS-style counts not required

What would falsify the thesis: evidence that the post-May-2025 revenue came from the old Amazon service line rather than AEO retainers, or that charge growth was driven by one or two whale accounts rather than new mid-market logos. The charge-count data argues against both: monthly charge counts rose from 8 to 9 in the trough to 34 to 40 by 2026, and average charge size landed near the published plan prices. This is a book of new retainers, not a legacy account inflating.

The rest of this teardown decomposes the machine: what exactly is sold, why the timing window opened, how the first hundred customers most plausibly arrived, where the competitive line holds, and what breaks it.
